Genetically Modified Food: Scientists Issue *Urgent* Warning
The seeds of Monsanto and Dupont’s Genetically Modified (GMO) corn (and other foods) have the pesticides and herbicides “built-in”. Farmers have been sounding warning alarms for several years that the insects and weeds present in their fields have been developing a strong resistance to the pesticides and herbicides in these genetically modified seeds—the farmers have reported that insects have become immune to the built-in pesticides and that the built-in herbicides have created a new strain of “super weeds” that require ever-stronger cocktails of chemical herbicides.
Now, scientific researchers studying the situation have just released their report to the government. Their recommendations go beyond the EPA’s power to require they be followed. That leaves it up to corporations like Monsanto to heed the warning. If Monsanto refuses to follow the experts’ recommendations (as they appear to be doing in their initial response),”the economic consequences of widespread ‘corn rootworm resistance’ to genetically engineered crops could be enormous”.
If you are wondering how all this will affect people in real life, take a look at the ingredients labels on the food in your local grocery store and you will see just how many of them contain “corn” and “corn oil”.

Insect Experts Issue ‘Urgent’ Warning On Using GM Seeds
In several different places across the corn belt, the insects have developed resistance to an inserted gene that is supposed to kill them.
Now, in a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released this week, 22 of the nation’s top experts on corn pests lay out some of the implications of this discovery, and they are potentially profound.
“If the recommendations in this letter were, in fact, put into practice, it would compel wrenching changes in the way that major seed companies like Monsanto and DuPont breed and market their corn seed.”
